Writer’s Compound
The Rockaways, NYC
2005
An 8000sf residence compound for a writer and his
30,000 volume library, developed in conjunction with
a Phase II four unit apartment wing designed to serve as housing for research assistants and convalescence quarters for the writer’s aging father, or to be sold outright.
The plan, looking inward to the courtyard and daylit significantly from skylights above, was designed for privacy.
Due to construction errors requiring substantial legal and physical remediation (built too low and over into the adjoining property), the project was abandoned by the owner after 95% completion of the first phase.
